Read the denominator, not only the percentage
Post-money valuation = pre-money valuation + new investment
New investor % = investment ÷ post-money valuation × 100
Your new % = your old % × pre-money valuation ÷ post-money valuation
With a ₹4 crore pre-money valuation and ₹1 crore new investment, the simplified post-money valuation is ₹5 crore. The investor receives 20%, and all existing holders retain 80% together. A person who previously held 60% would hold 48%, a reduction of 12 percentage points. Their share count is unchanged in this model; the total share count grows.

Know what this model leaves out
This is a single new-share priced round with no additional pool change, convertible instruments, warrants, fees, share transfers or special conversion mechanics. It does not model SAFEs, convertible notes, multiple share classes, liquidation preferences, voting rights, tax or the transaction documents. A real cap table can produce a different result.
The input percentage must be from the same share-count basis as the valuation; mixing a fully diluted percentage with a different denominator can make an apparently precise answer misleading. Currency selection changes formatting only. Zero new investment leaves ownership unchanged.
This calculator does not value your company, recommend a fundraising amount, choose a fair founder split or provide legal, investment or tax advice. Use a qualified adviser and the actual documents before relying on a transaction model.
Discuss the work behind the ownership
A founder split and a financing round are different discussions. Start by describing responsibility, contribution and expectations rather than using this calculator to allocate shares between founders automatically.
Collect open questions with the founder agreement checklist. Explore cash assumptions using the runway calculator, and use the fit worksheet to compare how you intend to work together.
